Back in August, the Missouri University of Science and Technology Women's Volleyball Team was picked to finish 3rd in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's West Division. Going into October, the Miners are currently sitting 4th in the West Division rankings with a conference record of 2-2, an overall record of 6-6. However, in order to know where Missouri S&T is going, you need to know where they've been.
Head coach Jason Holt started the women's volleyball program in 2007…from scratch. The 2007 team finished with a record of 3-31. That roster listed 14 true freshmen. Last year, the Miners finished 20-13 and boasted the second consecutive GLVC West Division title complete with a trip to the tournament semi-finals. If that doesn't show resilience, dedication and hard work by the players and coaching staff, well, I'm not sure what does!
Moral of the story… don't count Missouri S&T out of the running! There is plenty of season left to play, including some big conference match ups against William Jewell, Rockhurst, and Drury. With a group of 9 upperclassmen to lead the way and a coaching staff used to being labeled as an underdog, this team and this program is going to continue to go places!
The Miners take on University of Central Missouri in a non-conference match at home in the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. First serve is scheduled at 6pm.
Finally, a BIG shout out to our St. Louis gals:
Good Luck and Go Miners!!
